?There is an abundance of inspiration in Canada, being a land of beauty and power. At every turn
the scenes beg a brush and canvas.?

"Please, Don't sell the Farm, Oil, 11" x 14"

My desire is:

To create a Canadiana image which portrays the freedom and beauty of our country through its geography and wildlife;

To capture on canvas the spirit of the West, the majesty and solitude of the Rockies, and the reminiscence of our agricultural heritage, portrayed through its wildlife, bird and equine population.

My satisfaction comes when I can paint on the highlights and see the image come to life!

Biography

Sonja Marinoske was educated in the County of Strathcona and graduated from Salisbury High School in 1961. Her career as a legal secretary covered a span of 22 years. She is married to Ruben Marinoske and now has one daughter studying veterinarian medicine. The family resides on a small farm raising, breeding and showing miniature horses.

Sonja has self taught herself to paint in oils and to date has no formal education relative to the arts. However, painting from her home, she has
entered her work in the many juried and non juried shows of the Art Society of
Strathcona County, the Ardrossan and Josephburg craft sales, the County Fair, and the Snow Goose Festival in Tofield with much success,
displayed her work at venues in Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, and Edmonton.
She has received many private commissions of paintings on masonite and canvas, and cream cans, flower pots, and various other items.

At the 2000 Strathcona Winter Games, she received a third prize in the landscape division. Sonja is presently a member of the Art Society of Strathcona County and the Emerging Artists Society of Alberta, and continues to expand her portfolio.

Being a resident of the County since 1952, Sonja has witnessed the extensive growth and changes within the County, however, she can still find places where quiet and peace prevail. The wildlife in the County and in Alberta in general, are a fascination and creep into almost all of her paintings. Painting was only a dream for so many years, and it was only in 1997 through the encouragement of a friend that she actually set aside time to put some oil on canvas.
